About 350 tribes (sub-tribes being many more) speaking more than 100 languages and dialects have been specified as scheduled tribes in different specified as scheduled tribes in different states and union territories of India. (verma 1990) Santali language is the mother tongue of the Santals.

She usually does more work than the man folk The women of Santal's too handles the expenditures of her house hold and tries to save money, such that it can be used when necessary. In Santal Society there are no discriminating between a son and a daughter.

Male work is different and female work is different from each other. But they often enjoy equal status in the society. They are traditionally divided into two types of work. So in the Santal society-both of then live happily and peacefully. However, males drink any alcohol thing them create a problem in the family.
